Lead Mechanical Engineer at Orbit Fab

Srinivasan Arul Suresh has a diverse range of work experience in the field of mechanical engineering. Srinivasan Arul currently holds the position of Lead Mechanical Engineer at Orbit Fab, where they are responsible for leading the development of a flight-qualified GRIP and ensuring the team is allocated correctly. Srinivasan Arul has also worked as a Principal Engineer at Orbit Fab, where they led the design, analysis, assembly, and testing of the GRIP prototype and played a key role in the development of Tenzing, the demo fuel depot.

Prior to their work at Orbit Fab, Srinivasan worked at Stanford University. Srinivasan Arul served as a Payload Developer, leading the Gecko-Inspired Adhesive Grasping project and designing hardware to meet manufacturing and certification requirements. Srinivasan Arul also worked as a Lecturer, teaching a graduate mechatronics course and adapting the content for remote delivery during the pandemic. Additionally, they worked as a Research Assistant at the Biomimetics and Dexterous Manipulation Laboratory, focusing on gecko-inspired dry adhesives and supporting the lab's manufacturing tools.

Srinivasan's experience also includes a role as a Visiting Researcher at NASA Ames Research Center, where they conducted research in robotics. Srinivasan Arul worked as a Visiting Researcher at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where they adapted and implemented a manufacturing process for gecko adhesives and explored their use in soft robotic actuators. Srinivasan Arul also gained experience as a Summer Intern at Princeton University, designing optical sensor systems for magnetic suspension balance systems.

In addition to their academic and research experience, Srinivasan has held intern positions at Mission Critical Technologies, Stanford Genome Technology Center, and Carnegie Mellon Silicon Valley.

Srinivasan Arul Suresh began their education at Cupertino High School, where they completed their high school degree from 2005 to 2009. They then attended Princeton University from 2009 to 2013, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Afterward, they enrolled at Stanford University and pursued a Master of Science (MS) in Mechanical Engineering from 2013 to 2020. During the same period, Suresh also earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. In addition to their academic degrees, they obtained a certification as an Onshape Ambassador from Onshape, a PTC Business.
