David Clouston

Offshore Operations Manager at Orbital Marine Power

David Clouston has held a variety of positions in the marine energy industry. David began their career in 2003 as a Data Analyst at the Heriot-Watt International Centre for Island Technology. In 2008, they joined Orbital Marine Power Ltd as a Student Design Engineer, where they were responsible for the preparation of a scale model and associated sea trial testing of the company's tidal energy converter. In 2010, they were promoted to Offshore Operations Manager at Orbital Marine Power Ltd, where they were responsible for planning and safely conducting all marine operations regarding the SR2000 tidal turbine, from turbine installation/recovery, cable installation/splicing works and coordinating ROV, diver inspections and all turbine access for maintenance. David also planned and coordinated the launch of the SR2000 floating tidal turbine from Harland and Wolff Shipyards, and the commissioning tow trials in Belfast Lough/Irish sea, as well as delivery of SR2000 from Belfast to Orkney.

David Clouston's education history includes a Masters of Engineering with Honours in Mechanical Engineering with Renewable Energy from The University of Edinburgh, which they obtained between 2005 and 2010. From 2003 to 2004, they completed an Advanced Higher at Kirkwall Grammar School, with a field of study in Physics, Maths, and Chemistry. David also obtained Highers from Kirkwall Grammar School between 1998 and 2003, with a field of study in English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and Computing. Additionally, they have obtained several certifications from the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), including a RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper & Yachtmaster Offshore - Shorebased Course in 2013, a RYA Senior Instructor in 2012, a RYA/MCA Day Skipper for Sail and Power Craft in 2012, a Short Range Certificate in 2011, a Safety Boat Certificate in 2010, a National Powerboat Certificate - Level 2 in 2004, a RYA Dinghy Instructor in 2004, a Certificate of Competence - RYA/MCA Powerboat Advanced (Commercially Endorsed) in 2012, and a STCW - Personal Survival Techniques from Orkney College and CGC Orkney in 2014.
