Senior Research Programme Manager at Orion Health

Kelly Atkinson has a diverse work experience spanning over the years. Kelly started their career as a Postdoctoral Scientist at HortResearch in 2007, where they managed human health research projects and provided guidance on the ethical approval process for clinical trials. Kelly then moved on to The New Zealand Institute for Plant & Food Research Ltd in 2008, where they worked as a Scientist in the Human Responses team and utilized their project management skills in various projects related to sensory and consumer science. Kelly also served as a Human Ethics Coordinator, providing advice on approval requirements for studies involving human participants.

In 2012, Kelly joined The University of Auckland as the Operations and Business Development Manager for the Centre for Genomics, Proteomics and Metabolomics and the Bioinformatics Institute. In this role, they managed finances, clients, business systems, reporting, and collaboration.

Kelly continued their career at Orion Health and held multiple roles, including Senior Research Programme Manager, where they managed the research programme of Precision Driven Health and contributed to the OH Data Science team. Kelly also worked as a Research Programme Manager.

Currently, Kelly is working for The New Zealand Institute for Plant and Food Research Limited as an Operations Support Manager.

Kelly Atkinson completed a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences at The University of Auckland from 2003 to 2008. Before that, they obtained a Professional MS in Applied Biosciences from the University of Arizona, where they also received a BS in Molecular and Cellular Biology and a BA in Chemistry with a minor in Computer Science, all between 1995 and 1999. In terms of additional certifications, Kelly Atkinson received the following: a Professional Google Workspace Administrator certification from Google Cloud in May 2023, a Change Management Foundations certification from LinkedIn in April 2023, an AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification from Amazon Web Services (AWS) in January 2023, an Introduction to Conversational Māori certification from Auckland University of Technology in January 2021, an Intermediate Python certification from DataCamp in March 2020, an AI For Everyone certification from deeplearning.ai through Coursera in June 2019, a PRINCE2 Registered Practitioner certification from AXELOS Global Best Practice in May 2015, a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification from GoLeanSixSigma.com (specific date unknown), and an edX Honor Code Certificate for Introduction to Linux from edX (specific date unknown).
