Orleans Public Defenders
Drew Lafontant is a dedicated legal professional currently serving as a Staff Attorney at Orleans Public Defenders since September 2018. Prior experience includes roles as a Student Attorney at the Tulane Criminal Defense Clinic and a Law Clerk with both the Innocence Project New Orleans and the Louisiana Capital Assistance Center. Drew began a career in social work as a Social Worker at Glencrest Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, providing comprehensive case management. An early career in hospitality as a Hostess at The Noodle Cafe helped refine Drew's interpersonal skills. An international experience includes teaching English to over 300 students in rural Thailand while developing educational programs. Drew's legal foundation was strengthened through an internship at the Chicago Legal Clinic. Educational achievements include a Juris Doctor from Tulane University Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Law & Society from Oberlin College.

The Orleans Public Defenders Office (OPD) aims to provide the citizens of Orleans Parish and each eligible client with the highest quality, client-centered legal representation in Louisiana's criminal justice system - zealous, conscientious, caring, professional, ethical and skilled - whether in criminal, municipal or traffic court. OPD is a community-oriented defender office built upon that zealous defense of the poor and indigent while acknowledging the strengths of clients, families and communities. Established in 2007, OPD represents nearly 20,000 court-appointed clients each year.
