Juan Fiol is an experienced legal professional with a robust background in public defense and immigration services. Currently serving as a Staff Attorney at Orleans Public Defenders since January 2017, Juan previously held the same position at Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans, focusing on the Unaccompanied Children Program. Prior experience includes a significant tenure as a Senior Trial Attorney at Brooklyn Defender Services and as a Partner at Fiol & Hershkowitz, a law practice. Juan began their legal career as a Staff Attorney at The Legal Aid Society of NYC. Educational qualifications include a Juris Doctor from Tulane University Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in Latin American Studies from Tulane University.

The Orleans Public Defenders Office (OPD) aims to provide the citizens of Orleans Parish and each eligible client with the highest quality, client-centered legal representation in Louisiana's criminal justice system - zealous, conscientious, caring, professional, ethical and skilled - whether in criminal, municipal or traffic court. OPD is a community-oriented defender office built upon that zealous defense of the poor and indigent while acknowledging the strengths of clients, families and communities. Established in 2007, OPD represents nearly 20,000 court-appointed clients each year.
