Merrill Steeg is an experienced professional currently serving as a Client Advocate at the Los Angeles County Public Defender since February 2022 and as an Investigative Intern at Orleans Public Defenders since July 2021. Steeg has a solid background in criminal defense investigation, assisting with various tasks such as witness location and interviews, crime scene documentation, and background checks. Previously, Steeg held roles including Admissions Associate at The National WWII Museum and Writer for The Untz, an electronic dance music website, along with editorial work as Fiction Editor for the undergraduate literary journal Humble Pie. Academic credentials include a Master's degree in History from the University of New Orleans and a Bachelor's Degree in Creative Writing and Literature from California College of the Arts.

The Orleans Public Defenders Office (OPD) aims to provide the citizens of Orleans Parish and each eligible client with the highest quality, client-centered legal representation in Louisiana's criminal justice system - zealous, conscientious, caring, professional, ethical and skilled - whether in criminal, municipal or traffic court. OPD is a community-oriented defender office built upon that zealous defense of the poor and indigent while acknowledging the strengths of clients, families and communities. Established in 2007, OPD represents nearly 20,000 court-appointed clients each year.
