Mia Barr is a dedicated professional with extensive experience in advocacy and support services. Currently serving as a Client Advocate at Orleans Public Defenders since September 2022, Mia has previously held roles as a Fellow at Partners for Justice and as a Client and Family Assistance Coordinator at The Promise of Justice Initiative. Additionally, experience includes time as a Corps Member at Avodah and various internship positions, including work with Citizens for Juvenile Justice and the Massachusetts State House of Representatives. Mia holds a Bachelor's degree in History (with Honors) and Political Science from Skidmore College, complemented by study abroad programs in Social Justice and Activism in Cape Town, South Africa, and Multiculturalism and Human Rights in Rabat, Morocco.

The Orleans Public Defenders Office (OPD) aims to provide the citizens of Orleans Parish and each eligible client with the highest quality, client-centered legal representation in Louisiana's criminal justice system - zealous, conscientious, caring, professional, ethical and skilled - whether in criminal, municipal or traffic court. OPD is a community-oriented defender office built upon that zealous defense of the poor and indigent while acknowledging the strengths of clients, families and communities. Established in 2007, OPD represents nearly 20,000 court-appointed clients each year.
