Michael Purdy has a diverse work experience in engineering and biomedical research. Michael began their career in 2010 as a Biomedical Research Technologist at the University of Calgary, where they took a leadership role in a project to design a microelectrode, implantable device for use in nerve regeneration. Michael then worked as a Research Summer Student at Innovations for High Performance Microelectronics in 2012, aiding in the design and optimization of a high-voltage generation circuit. In 2013, they worked as a Project Engineering Student at Noise Solutions Inc., leading the transition of company documents from conventional digital files to wiki format, performing backpressure and noise calculations, and running structural and wind load simulations. That same year, they also worked on their MSc thesis at the University of Calgary, collaborating with separate research groups and neurosurgeons on the development of nerve regeneration tools. In 2016, they became Co-Founder of Enable, a for-profit social enterprise that partners people with disabilities to support workers based on shared interests. Michael also became the Engineering Team Lead at Orpyx Medical Technologies that same year.
Michael Purdy attended the University of Calgary from 2007 to 2013, graduating with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Electrical Engineering. During their time at the University of Calgary, they also participated in an exchange program at the Technische Universität Berlin from 2012 to 2013, studying Electrical Engineering.
