Orthopaedic Medical Group of Tampa Bay
Clayton Bauer, MD, PhD, is a neurosurgeon and spine surgeon currently affiliated with the Orthopaedic Medical Group of Tampa Bay since June 2022. Prior experience includes serving as a neurosurgery resident physician at the University of South Florida from May 2015 to June 2022, and as an MD/PhD candidate at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, where Clayton completed a PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology in May 2013 and an MD in May 2015. Research efforts during the PhD focused on developing monoamine releasers with reduced abuse liability through preclinical animal models. Prior research roles included a research assistantship in the Physics Department at Wake Forest University, studying organelle transport, and an undergraduate research assistantship in Neurobiology, investigating calcium binding proteins in neonatal brain development. Education includes a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Wake Forest University, completed in 2007.
