Christy Oakes has a diverse work experience in the field of nursing. Christy started their career as a Director of Nursing at Parkview Health where they oversaw clinical operations for orthopaedic nursing units. After that, they worked as a Clinical Manager at Indiana University Health, where they were responsible for clinical nursing in the Acute Pediatric Rehab unit and outpatient clinic.
Christy then served as President-Elect and later became the President of the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses. In these roles, they led a 10-member board, facilitated executive board decisions, and assisted with strategic planning and fiscal management.

Christy Oakes has an extensive education history in the field of nursing. Christy began their education in 1971 at Indiana University-Kokomo, where they obtained their ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing) in 1975. After gaining some experience as a registered nurse, they pursued further education at Marian University Indianapolis from 1983 to 1986, earning their BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing). Later, from 2000 to 2005, they attended Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis, where they obtained their MSN (Master of Science in Nursing) with a specialization in Nursing Administration.
In addition to their academic achievements, Christy Oakes has also obtained several certifications to enhance their professional skills. In 2016, they acquired the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (CLSS GB) certification from WorkOne. Christy also holds the Orthopaedic Nurse Certified (ONC) designation, which is granted by the Orthopaedic Nurses Certification Board (ONCB).
