Birgitta Sujdak MacKiewicz

Birgitta Sujdak Mackiewicz, MA, PhD, currently serves as the Director of Ethics for the Central Region and for OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center & Children’s Hospital of Illinois, with a tenure at OSF HealthCare starting in September 2006. Birgitta has been a member of the Illinois POLST Committee since June 2017 and is actively involved with National POLST as the Illinois Representative until September 2024. As a Faculty Member at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria, Birgitta contributes to the Department of Family & Community Medicine, and previously coordinated fellowships for the same institution. Additional experience includes teaching ethics as an Adjunct Professor at OSFHC Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing and working in various roles within the educational and broadcasting sectors. Birgitta's academic credentials include a PhD in Health Care Ethics from Saint Louis University, an MA in Philosophy from Michigan State University, and a BA in Philosophy and American Studies from Randolph College.
