James Hawkins MBA FRAeS started their work experience in 1987 with the Royal Navy, where they held various roles over the years, including Cdr RN, Requirements and Acceptance Manager, Team Leader, Ops Commander & CO Royal Navy for HQBF Gibraltar, and Operations Officer for HMS Invincible. In 2004, they worked as a Staff Officer at Navy Command HQ before joining the Joint Helicopter Command as a Team Leader for Project Belvedere in 2005. In 2012, they joined Dstl as a Staff Officer for Maritime Systems/Naval Aviation. In 2014, they joined OSI Maritime Systems as the Business Development Director for the UK, then became the Director of Business Development for the UK & EMEA in 2017.

James Hawkins holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Cranfield School of Management, which they obtained from 2009 to 2010. James also attended Britannia Royal Naval College in 1987 to 1988, although no specific degree or field of study was mentioned for this period. James Hawkins has an additional certification as FRAeS from the Royal Aeronautical Society, obtained in 2013. In 2008, they also obtained a certification in Leadership and Management from City and Guilds, London, specifically in MCGI.
