Scientist (sensor & Electrochemistry) at Osler Diagnostics

Rhys Ashton has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Rhys started working at Osler Diagnostics as a Scientist (Sensor & Electrochemistry) in 2023. Prior to that, they worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of York from 2019 to 2023, where they demonstrated and taught various engineering modules. Rhys also assisted in the development of a water quality monitoring system. Before that, Rhys worked as an Industrial Placement Student at Philips Research from 2017 to 2018, where they contributed to the development of a MEMS sensor for detecting VOCs and worked on an optical pH sensor project for their university dissertation. Additionally, they were a Team Lead at Amadeus Food from 2014 to 2018. Rhys also gained experience as a Summer Research Intern at the University of York in 2016. Earlier in their career, Rhys worked on the HR team at Sodexo, where they played a key role in processing workforce data during the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. Rhys also had a brief HR role at Amadeus Food in 2012.

Rhys Ashton's education history starts with their time at Polesworth High School from 2007 to 2012, where they completed their GCSEs. They then attended Tomlinson Hall Sixth Form from 2012 to 2014, focusing on subjects such as 3D Product Design, Mathematics, Physics, and Further Mathematics (AS), as well as Chemistry (AS). After completing their A-Levels, Rhys Ashton enrolled at the University of York in 2014, where they pursued a Master of Engineering (MEng) in Electronic Engineering with Nanotechnology. This program lasted until 2019. Following their master's degree, Rhys Ashton continued their education at the University of York, embarking on a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program in Electrochemical Biosensors. This program began in 2019 and is expected to conclude in 2023.
