Justin Fernandes has had a varied work experience since 2005. Justin began their career as a Substation Technical Engineer Co-op at Nstar Electric and Gas Corp, where they were responsible for seventeen trouble shooting crews working as a system dispatcher during the spring 2005 nor'easter, and also designed circuit breaker overhaul instructions and debugged relay circuitry in substation control houses. In 2008, they were a Research Assistant Fellowship at Northeastern University, where they researched the use of millimeter-wave (MMW) radar to perform standoff and portal detection of concealed body-worn explosives. From 2010-2015, they were an Applied Physics Research Engineer at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, where they designed the next generation body scanner, optimized imaging system parameters, wrote a three dimensional image reconstruction algorithm, and developed various statistical and geometric based image processing techniques. From 2015-2019, they were a Senior Software Engineer at Insitu Inc, where they were the software technical lead for developing Insitu UAS Vision Systems and was a technical contributor and team lead for development of a standards based Operator In the Loop UAS Vision System. Currently, they are a Senior Software Engineer at Overwatch Imaging, where they develop Full Stack Computer Vision based applications to extract information from image data, and is responsible for dataset creation, annotation, training, validation, testing, and deployment to edge based real-time processing solution.
Justin Fernandes received their Master of Science in Electromagnetics and Optics from Northeastern University in 2010, following their Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the same university, which they earned in 2008.
