David Ruiz-Alonso

Co-Founder and COO at Owlstone Medical

David is responsible for day-to-day Operations at Owlstone Medical. He co-founded Owlstone Inc in 2004 where he spent over 12 years leading operations as the company developed, manufactured and commercialized products for Defense, Industrial and Scientific instrumentation markets. During this time Owlstone Inc delivered products to fulfil $17M in orders, executed on R&D contracts for a value of $18M with governmental organizations like US DoD and UK NHS and blue chip companies, like Agilent and Selex, while it grew from a 3 people start-up to an 80 persons organization.

He grew up in Murcia in Spain, and earned his bachelors and master's degree in engineering at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, where he took a double major in electronics and communications. He then spent a year as a graduate student at University of California, Berkeley, where he completed his Msc thesis before starting a PhD in Cambridge University. He ultimately put his PhD in superconductor modelling on hold to co-found Owlstone, where he initially worked on its core technology and is co-inventor in multiple patents.
