Dr. Bartu Ahiska has a diverse work experience. Starting in 2001, they worked as a Technical Documentation Specialist at Visioprime. In 2005, they were involved in Intellectual Property work at Grandeye, where they co-invented and patented several technologies. Dr. Bartu then moved on to work as a Business Development representative at Camerge in 2006, where they won a prize for their pitch in an Oxford University Business competition. In 2011, they had an internship in Investment Banking at J.P. Morgan Cazenove. In the same year, they began their CEO role at Approxy, leading R&D and developing a strong patent portfolio. In 2014, they founded Trogenex, Inc., a new venture focused on transforming gene therapy using nanotechnology. In 2016, Dr. Ahiska became the Innovation, IP & Commercialization Manager at OHSU, where they set strategic direction for researchers and evaluated patents and invention disclosures. Most recently, in 2019, they joined Oxford BioDynamics Plc as the Senior Director of Commercial Development.
Dr. Bartu Ahiska's education history begins in the year 2000 when they attended Stanford University for a pre-collegiate program. Afterwards, they went on to study at the University of Cambridge from 2001 to 2005, where they pursued a degree in Electronic & Information Engineering and completed their MEng. Later, from 2006 to 2011, they attended the University of Oxford, where they obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computational Genomics. Additionally, in 2009 and 2010, Dr. Ahiska also studied at Saïd Business School, a part of the University of Oxford, focusing on Science Innovation Plus.
