Thomas Povey began their work experience in 2003 as a Fellow by Special Election at St Catherine's College, University of Oxford. In 2004, they became a Tutorial Fellow in Engineering Science at University College, Oxford, and held this position until 2009. During this time, they also served as the Tacchi Fellow in Engineering Science from 2009 onwards. In 2005, they joined the University of Oxford as a University Lecturer in Engineering Science, a role they held until 2014 when they became a Professor of Engineering Science at the same institution. In 2014, they also became an Inventor of Flare cookware at Oxford University Innovation. Since 2015, Povey has served as the Founder and CTO of Oxford Flow, where they design and manufactures pressure control equipment. Additionally, they have written a bestselling mathematics and physics book called "Professor Povey's Perplexing Problems" and has worked as an Author at Oneworld Publications Limited in 2015.
Thomas Povey completed their Bachelor's degree in Physics from the University of Oxford from 1996 to 1999. Thomas then pursued further studies at the same institution, completing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Engineering Science from 1999 to 2003.
