Thomas Jayasekara has a diverse work experience history. Thomas started their career as a Swimming Teaching Assistant at Southminster Swimming Pool, where they developed their leadership and communication skills while assisting with a lifesaving skills course. Thomas also worked as a Private Tutor, focusing on Mathematics and Science, helping students prepare for their GCSE exams. Thomas then joined Panspermia Microbiology Laboratory as a Laboratory Technician, gaining experience in culturing and preparing samples for testing. Thomas later worked as a Temporary Worker at Blue Arrow for five years. Thomas also served as a Food and Beverage Server at The Fife Arms. In 2020, they joined the Department of Health and Social Care as a Laboratory Technician and later became a Laboratory Shift Manager. Thomas is currently working as a Development Scientist at Oxford Nanopore Technologies Ltd.

Thomas Jayasekara started their education at the University of Aberdeen in 2015, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry. Thomas completed this program in 2019. Following this, in 2019, Thomas enrolled in the University of Aberdeen again to pursue a Master of Science degree in Industrial Biotechnology, specializing in the field of Biotechnology. Thomas completed this program in 2020.
