John Yates

John Yates has a wealth of experience in the satellite telecommunications sector, beginning with their role as Business Manager for Société Européenne des Satellites (SES - Astra) in 1986. John then moved to Inmarsat in 1989, where they served as Marketing Manager for the Oil and Gas Industry and Commercial Manager for the Inmarsat-2 Space Programme. In 1994, John founded Aries Communications Limited, where they served as Managing Director and provided application solutions for the Inmarsat 64kbps service for use in the broadcast, oil and gas and military markets. From 2006 to 2009, they were Senior Vice President of Engineering for ONDAS Media SA, responsible for all aspects of the network infrastructure associated with the launch of a €1.6bn pan-European S-band satellite radio venture. During this same period, John was also an advisor to the UK Technology Strategy Board in respect of European Space Agency funded advanced technology satellite telecommunications programmes. In 2015, John became a Non Executive Director for Oxford Space Systems, followed by their role as Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of Helix Technologies Ltd in 2017. Most recently, they have served as Managing Director of Atheras Analytics since 2020, where they are focused on the delivery of high throughput data services through the use of the high frequency Ka and Q/V-bands.

John Yates obtained their BSc(Hons) in Electrical Engineering and Electronics from the University of Nottingham between 1976 and 1979. John then obtained their MIET from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in September 1979. In 1985, they completed their Dip BA in Business Administration from Alliance Manchester Business School. In May 2002, they obtained their International Yachtmaster Certification from the Royal Yachting Association (RYA).
