Kelly Matzen has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Kelly started their career as a Student Researcher at Boyce Thompson Institute for Plant Research in 1999, conducting maize research through field and laboratory work. Kelly continued working as a Student Researcher at the same institute during alternating summers until 2005.
In 2005, Kelly joined the California Institute of Technology as a Graduate Student Researcher, where they worked until 2012.
From 2012 onwards, Kelly has been associated with Oxitec Ltd. Kelly has held various roles in the company, including Senior Scientist, Quality Control Team Leader, Senior Research Scientist - Team Leader, R&D Group Leader, Production Lead, Head of Process Development, Head of Global Operations, and Head of R&D and Operations. In their different roles, Kelly has managed teams, delivered key projects, maintained strategic partnerships, and led research and development portfolios. Currently, they hold the position of Chief Technology Officer at Oxitec Ltd, a role they assumed in July 2021.
Kelly Matzen completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry at Boston College from 2001 to 2005. Following this, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics at Caltech, where they studied from 2005 to 2011.
