Ray Henderson

Advisor at Pamlico Capital

Ray Henderson is an educational technology entrepreneur, strategic advisor, and seed stage investor. As an operating executive he helped launch several of the most successful companies in education technology. He led product and service development at eCollege, which went public in 1999 and was later acquired by Pearson. He was president of Pearson’s digital products business unit and assisted the company in developing its first lines of business in online products. While at Angel Learning he helped pioneer the development of open industry standards that are now the foundation for systems and data interoperability in the education industry. When Angel was acquired by industry leader Blackboard, he became president and CTO of the organization and was recognized for significantly expanding the company’s vision for education and its reputation for service delivery in the industry.

Today Ray leads Lessons Learned Ventures, LLC, a boutique education technology advisory where he is developing portfolio companies and management teams. He has helped launch a series of successful new companies including Vericite (a plagiarism detection firm acquired by Turn It In/Insight Venture Partners), HelioCampus (institutional analytic spin off from the University of Maryland system) and Lumen Learning (open educational resource alternatives to textbooks). Ray advised the Pamlico team that acquired Metametrics Inc., where he now serves as Lead Director. As a member of the Pamlico advisory board, Ray’s focus is helping us source new deals in the rapidly growing education sector.
