Gerry Eijkemans is an accomplished public health professional with extensive experience in addressing social and environmental determinants of health equity. Currently serving as the Director of Social and Environmental Determinants for Health Equity at the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) since May 2018, Gerry has held multiple leadership roles within PAHO/WHO, including Director of the Subregional Program for Central America and Unit Chief for social determinants of health and health promotion. Previous positions include PAHO/WHO Representative in Mexico, The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands, and Suriname, as well as serving as an Advisor on Sustainable Development and Environment. Gerry began a career at the International Labour Organization as Senior Advisor on Hazardous Child Labour and also worked as an Occupational Health Advisor at both the World Health Organization and PAHO. Gerry holds an M.D. from Radboud University and an MPH from The Johns Hopkins University.
