Michael Avendano has worked in a variety of roles over the past decade. From 2010 to 2015, they served as a Shift Manager at KFC. From 2013 to 2017, they worked as a Radiation Safety Technician at the Environmental Health and Safety Office at UIC, where they were responsible for calibration and maintenance of radioactive survey instruments, data entry and management, and ensuring compliance with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency. From 2015 to 2019, they were a Data Systems Coordinator at MrktServ Holdings, Inc. and from 2017 to 2019, they were a Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant for Data Structures at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Most recently, they have been a Software Engineer at Pangaea Information Technologies, Ltd., where they have been creating RESTful APIs in ASP. NET Core, ASP. NET, and Node.

Michael Avendano completed an Associate of Arts and Sciences (A.A.S.) in Physics from Illinois Central College between 2010 and 2012. Michael then went on to pursue a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Physics from the University of Illinois Chicago between 2012 and 2015. Afterward, they returned to the University of Illinois Chicago to earn a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Computer Science, which they completed in 2019. In 2021, they obtained the CompTIA Security+ Certification from CompTIA.
