Tom Cohen

Co-founder, President, And COO at Panome Bio

Tom Cohen has a diverse and impressive work experience. Tom started their career as a Graduate Student at the University of California at San Diego, where they developed assays for high-throughput screening related to beta-cell function and identified a novel pathway activated by antipsychotics. Tom then joined the UC San Diego Entrepreneur Challenge as CEO and VP Programs, where they gained experience in leadership and program management.

After completing their graduate studies, Tom joined The BALSA Group as a Project Manager and Consultant, where they managed projects commissioned by professors and worked with the Office of Technology Management and a local startup on diagnostic technology.

Tom then joined the Washington University School of Medicine as a Postdoc Research Scholar and JCCF fellow. In this role, they focused on proteomic technology development and whole genome methylation analysis.

In 2013, Tom co-founded Nanopore Diagnostics, LLC and served as the CEO until 2019. During their tenure, they played a crucial role in the company's success and growth.

Tom also co-founded The BALSA Foundation in 2014, where they initially served as the Business Director and later transitioned to a Board Member role. The foundation aims to create a more inclusive and collaborative entrepreneurial ecosystem in Saint Louis by providing resources, mentorship, and grants to individuals with business ideas.

In 2019, Tom joined BioGenerator as an Analyst in Entrepreneur Development, where they worked on analyzing and supporting startup ventures. Tom later became a Senior Analyst and Director of BioGenerator Ventures.

In 2022, Tom co-founded three companies: Panome Bio, Hypha Life Sciences, and Solis Agrosciences. Tom currently holds the positions of Co-Founder and COO at Panome Bio, Co-Founder and CEO at Hypha Life Sciences, and Co-founder and board director at Solis Agrosciences.

Throughout their career, Tom has demonstrated strong leadership, entrepreneurship, and expertise in the fields of bioengineering and diagnostics.

Tom Cohen earned a BS in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Vanderbilt University, completing their studies from 2001 to 2005. Tom then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biomedical Sciences at UC San Diego, successfully obtaining the degree from 2006 to 2011.
