Niels Uiterwijk has a diverse work experience in the gaming industry. Niels started their career as a Game Programming Intern at Codeglue in 2008, where they worked on several projects. After that, they joined Telecompaper as a Developer for a brief period.
In 2010, Niels worked as a Game Programmer at Ronimo Games, where they contributed to tools for their next game and assisted with the PS3 porting of Swords & Soldiers. Niels also had a Game Programmer Internship at Ronimo Games during this time, where they implemented optimizations.
Niels returned to Codeglue in 2011, this time as a Lead Game Programmer. Niels was responsible for the design and maintenance of the game engine and worked on various games, such as Rocket Riot 3D, Terraria PlayStation 3, Mobile & Nintendo 3DS. Niels also participated in game jams and won several awards.
During their time at Codeglue, Niels also held the position of Lead Programmer at Glowforth, where they created a 2D engine in C++ with an in-game level editor and guided a programmer intern.
In 2011, Niels founded their own company, GLHF Games, where they served as the CEO and focused on creating fun and innovative games. Niels also worked as a Web Programmer at Het Inventief during the same year.
Niels joined Paradox Interactive in 2018 as a Tech Lead on Imperator: Rome, where they were responsible for the technical delivery of the game. Niels led a team of programmers, implemented improved work processes, and communicated with all parties involved in the game's release.
In 2019, Niels transitioned to the role of Tech Lead of PDS Engine at Paradox Interactive. Niels was responsible for leading the engine team, setting up internal studio processes, and synchronizing cross-studio technology developments. Niels also played a key role in setting the vision for future engine work and contributed to the product roadmap.
In 2020, Niels advanced to the position of Technical Director at Paradox Interactive, where they continue to contribute their expertise in game development and technology.
Niels Uiterwijk completed their Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering at Avans University of Applied Sciences from 2006 to 2010.
