Laura Swain began their work experience in 2012 with the Government of Alberta, where they held various roles such as Manager of Strategic Planning and Reporting, Manager of Policy Coordination, Policy Coordination Advisor, and Performance Reporting Analyst. In these positions, they were responsible for developing annual reports, business plans, and policies, as well as coordinating ministry-wide briefings and conducting research. In 2016, Laura joined Parkland County and worked as a Corporate Planner, Director of Strategic Planning & Intergovernmental Affairs, General Manager of the Corporate Services Division, and currently serves as the Chief Administrative Officer. In these roles, they provided leadership and direction for critical service functions, oversaw the County's strategic planning and progress evaluation, managed council meetings and elections, and ensured alignment with strategic goals and performance measures.

Laura Swain completed their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) (Honours) degree in Political Science from Cape Breton University between the years 2006 and 2010. Laura then pursued a Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.) with a specialization in Public Administration at Dalhousie University from 2010 to 2012. In 2018, Laura attended the Smith School of Business at Queen's University where they obtained a certificate in an executive program.
