Jean-Claude Marcourt has an extensive political career, currently serving as Député and Président du Parlement de Wallonie since September 2019. Previously, from July 2017 to September 2019, Jean-Claude held the position of Vice-Président du Gouvernement and Ministre de l'Enseignement Supérieur, de l'Enseignement de Promotion Sociale, de la Recherche et des Médias at Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles. Jean-Claude served in various roles within the Wallonie and Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles governments from 2009 to 2017, focusing on economy, industry, and education. Earlier experience includes being Ministre de l'Economie, de l'Emploi et du Commerce Extérieur in the Wallonie government and serving as Chef de Cabinet in multiple capacities within the Belgian government from 1992 to 2004. Jean-Claude is a founding member of Cabinet Marcourt, practicing law from 1979 until taking a leave from the bar in 1992. Education includes a Licence en droit from the University of Liège, obtained between 1974 and 1979.
