Alexandra McDougal has over 12 years of work experience. In 2009, they were a Hardware Engineering Intern at Mintera. In 2010, they were an REU Astronomy Intern at the National Solar Observatory and an Undergraduate Research/Teaching Assistant at Wesleyan University. In 2011, they were an REU Astronomy Intern at the Arecibo Observatory. From 2012 to 2018, they were a Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant at the University of Colorado Boulder. Finally, from 2018 to 2022, they were a Lead Data Scientist at Transamerica, where they created an employee retention model and developed an iterative ensemble GBM technique to extract a signal from an imbalanced, noisy dataset.

Alexandra McDougal obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Astronomy from Wesleyan University in 2012. Alexandra then went on to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Astrophysics from the University of Colorado Boulder, which they completed in 2018. In addition, they have obtained certifications in Deep Learning, DeepLearning.AI Tensorflow Developer, and Natural Language Processing with Deep Learning from deeplearning.ai and Stanford University, respectively, in 2020.
