Alastair Corbin

Principal Scientist at Pathios Therapeutics

Alastair Corbin has over 10 years of work experience in the field of biomedical research. Alastair currently works as a Senior Scientist at Pathios Therapeutics since 2022. Prior to that, they were employed as a Scientist at IPSEN BIOINNOVATION LIMITED from 2019 to 2022. At IPSEN, they conducted studies on the treatment of primary neuronal cultures with neurotoxins and performed binding kinetic studies using Biolayer Interferometry. Alastair also designed experiment workflows.

Before their time at IPSEN, Alastair worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Mucosal Immunology at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology from 2013 to 2019. Alastair'sresearch focused on the therapeutic potential of IRF5-kinase inhibitors and the validation of a small molecule inhibitor targeting an IRF5-activating kinase. Alastair conducted experiments on ulcerative colitis patient intestinal biopsies and investigated inflammatory parameters. Alastair utilized techniques such as flow cytometry, qPCR, ELISA, and IF microscopy. Additionally, during their time at the Kennedy Institute, Alastair completed their DPhil in Cellular and Molecular Medicine, where they studied the effect of IRF5 deficiency on intestinal inflammation and the mucosal monocyte/macrophage compartment. The results of their studies were published in Science Immunology.

Alastair also gained industry experience as an Industrial Placement Student at GSK from 2011 to 2012. In this role, they validated a quantitative model of cutaneous inflammation for the development of novel epigenetic therapies for systemic lupus erythematosus and psoriasis. Alastair performed qPCR analysis, H&E staining, and scoring of inflamed skin samples.

Overall, Alastair Corbin has demonstrated expertise in various areas of biomedical research, including neurotoxicity analysis, inflammatory conditions, and molecular medicine.

Alastair Corbin pursued their education in a chronological manner. From 2009 to 2013, they attended The University of Manchester, where they obtained their Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Medical Biochemistry with Industrial Experience. During their time there, their field of study focused on Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Following this, Alastair Corbin advanced their education further at the University of Oxford from 2013 to 2017. Alastair successfully completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Cellular and Molecular Medicine, further specializing in their chosen field of study.
