Sean Cavanaugh

Sean Cavanaugh is a health technology executive who is currently a board member at PatientPing. Prior to their current role, Sean served as deputy administrator and director of the Center for Medicare at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. In this role, Sean was responsible for developing regulations and payment policies for the Medicare program, overseeing Medicare fee-for-service providers, privately-administered Medicare health plans, and the Medicare prescription drug program. Sean also managed more than 700 employees and testified before U.S. Senate and House committees.

During their time at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Sean made significant expansion to Medicare's investment in primary care, behavioral health, care coordination and advance care planning. Sean also accelerated the expansion of the Medicare Shared Savings Program, a new model that encourages coordination among health care providers to improve the value and quality of care. In addition, Sean oversaw significant changes to the way Medicare Advantage plans are paid to level the playing field between insurance companies and foster a competitive market.

Sean began their career in health technology at Omada Health before joining PatientPing as an advisor in January 2017. Sean held this role until December 2021 when they were appointed to the PatientPing board.

Sean Cavanaugh has a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) in Health Finance and Management from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a Bachelor's degree in Economics from University of Pennsylvania.
