As an associate in the firm’s Dallas office, David Huang works to protect clients’ intellectual property in the fields of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, chemical, electronics and semiconductors, medical devices, optics and transportation. David works in a variety of IP practice areas including patents, trademark and brand protection, litigation and dispute resolution.
With an undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering and years of experience defending the patentability of medical inventions — including biomedical orthopedic implants, ultrasound and photoacoustic imaging catheters, pharmaceutical compositions and vaccines — David is well-versed in working with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to achieve his clients’ goals. Prior to joining Patterson + Sheridan, David worked as an IP attorney for two Texas-based firms where he gained experience prosecuting patent applications, drafting agreements, filing international trademark applications and developing litigation strategies for a wide array of technology and scientific fields, including software and mobile applications, medical devices, remote-controlled vehicles and drones.
David applies a holistic approach to his practice, considering how a well-crafted patent application and trademark and brand protection strategies can work in tandem to help his clients protect their inventions and gain a competitive edge. As part of his methodology, David dedicates the necessary time and resources to understanding the ins and outs of his clients’ complex technologies while diligently working to anticipate their needs, devising strategies that will help them achieve current goals and also grow their business.
Having worked with a wide array of technologies, David recognizes each client has unique needs and believes each case deserves individualized attention to reach its optimal potential. David is an efficient, analytical thinker who is constantly searching for new perspectives to solidify his patent and litigation strategies.
Outside the office, David enjoys cooking, playing the piano and guitar, playing basketball and spending time with his wife and kids. He is also a native Mandarin speaker.
