Keith Tackett

Keith Tackett applies three decades of legal experience when building, protecting and maximizing his clients’ intellectual property portfolios. Focusing primarily in the semiconductor manufacturing sector, he has secured hundreds of commercially significant semiconductor-related patents over the course of his career. His recent experience also includes medical devices such as monitors for determining blood flow, inhalers for controlled dosage of pharmaceuticals, and extended release medications. With a background in chemical engineering, Keith has the technical know-how to speak his clients’ language and quickly understand their inventions, combined with the legal expertise to achieve his clients’ intellectual property goals.

Prior to joining the firm, Keith was a patent attorney for Shell Oil Company for nine years, handling prosecution and appeals in the polymer industry, giving him a solid understanding of his clients’ day-to-day challenges and needs. He previously filed and prosecuted patent applications at Pravel, Gambrell, Hewitt, Kimball & Krieger for chemical and mechanical inventions including polymers and medical devices. Prior to law school, Keith also worked as an environmental engineer with Monsanto for five years, where he monitored industrial sources of pollution and conducted field research using new devices for measuring pollution.

Keith has a strong track record of success in appeal proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board. Due to his years of experience and in-depth knowledge of patent rules and procedures, Keith knows the importance of persistence through the appeals process, using a range of strategies to achieve patent protection.

Although timing is critical, Keith makes the time to carefully listen to his clients. Keith’s philosophy is that preconceived notions, opinions and definitions limit what a lawyer may hear and will inevitably color perception and impede strategic thinking. He proactively listens to his clients and partners with them to truly understand their objectives and find creative solutions.
