Kelley Sheehan

Kelley Sheehan is an associate at Patterson + Sheridan, where she prepares and prosecutes patent applications involving biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, complex software, information technology, medical devices and procedures. Her background in clinical research allows her to understand emerging technologies and distill complex information to help her clients protect their intellectual property assets.

Before becoming a USPTO patent agent and patent attorney, Kelley was a Certified Clinical Research Associate (CCRA) through the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP). During her time in the pharmaceutical and biotechnologies industry, Kelley acted as lead CRA on Phase 3 clinical trials for a novel small-molecule pharmaceutical used to treat knee osteoarthritis. Her work in clinical research taught her the importance of precision and communication.

Kelley enjoys practicing IP law because it continually exposes her to cutting-edge technology and allows her to bring her client’s ideas to life. While pursuing her law degree at the University of San Diego School of Law, Kelley served as comment editor of the San Diego International Law Journal, President of USD Intellectual Property Law Association and received CALI Excellence Awards in Patent Prosecution, Contract Drafting and Artificial Intelligence courses. The journal also published an article she wrote on artificial intelligence patents in the international community.
