MacIej Cytowski

Head Of Scientific Services at Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre

Maciej Cytowski has extensive experience in the field of high-performance computing (HPC). Maciej began their career at ICM University of Warsaw in 2004 as a High-Performance Computing Specialist, where they focused on optimizing and developing applications for massively parallel and accelerated HPC systems. In June 2015, they were promoted to Head of the Large-Scale Computing Division at ICM, leading a team responsible for HPC user support, grant management, application optimization, and operation of software licenses. In 2017, Cytowski joined the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre as a Supercomputing Application Specialist, and later became the Head of Scientific Services in November 2019. In 2020, they also took on the role of Adjunct Senior Lecturer at Curtin University, teaching a course in collaboration with the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre. Throughout their career, Cytowski has demonstrated a strong interest in supercomputers, parallel programming, code optimization, hardware accelerators, and scientific computing.

Maciej Cytowski holds a PhD in Computational Science from the Systems Research Institute, Polish Academy of Science, which they obtained from 2013 to 2015. Maciej also has an MSc in Mathematics from the University of Warsaw, achieved from 1999 to 2005, and another MSc in Mathematics from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam), completed in 2003-2004. Additionally, Maciej attended XIV LO im.S.Staszica from 1996 to 2000. Maciej has received certifications in various fields, including Advanced Learning Algorithms from DeepLearning.AI, Stanford University (expected in 2024), and HPC Certified Mentor from Canvas Credentials (Badgr) (expected in 2023), among others.

The Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre is encouraging and energising research using supercomputing, large scale data storage and visualisation in Western Australia. We provide facilities and expertise to the research, education and industrial communities. Application areas include nanotechnology, radio astronomy, high energy physics, medical research, mining and petroleum, architecture and construction, multimedia, and urban planning, amongst others. The Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre is an unincorporated joint venture between CSIRO, Curtin University, Edith Cowan University, Murdoch University and The University of Western Australia and is supported by the Western Australian and Federal Governments.
