Jay Grafton

Vice President Solar Operations at Pearce Renewables

Jay Grafton has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Jay started their career in the US Navy as a Commissioned Officer, serving on submarines from 1981 to 1991. Jay then worked at ABB Impell as a Site Electrical Lead Design Engineer for the Zion Nuclear Plant before joining TVA Nuclear. At TVA Nuclear, they held various positions including Plant Engineer, Chemistry Technical Support Supervisor, Plant Procurement and Inventory Manager, and Power Plant Quality Assurance Manager.

In 1992, Jay Grafton transitioned to VeraSun Energy as Director of Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations, where they played a crucial role in the company's growth from $300 million to $2.5 billion in annual revenues. Jay then moved to SunPower Corporation as the Americas Director of Operations and Maintenance.

From 2011 to 2012, Jay Grafton worked at Alyeska Pipeline Service Company as an Operations Engineering Manager, leading automation engineers and operations engineers in implementing SCADA systems and conducting pipeline analysis.

After that, they co-founded Power Factors, a company that developed performance monitoring software and provided engineering and O&M consulting services to the solar industry. Jay later sold the company in 2016.

Jay Grafton's current role is with MaxGen Energy Services, where they have held two positions. Jay started as the Vice President Portfolio Performance, responsible for customer care, project management, and solar plant operations and maintenance. In 2020, they transitioned to the role of Vice President Solar Operations, overseeing the company's solar operations. MaxGen Energy Services is one of the largest independent commercial and utility O&M service providers in the US market.

Jay Grafton's education history includes a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mathematics from the United States Naval Academy, which they obtained between 1977 and 1981. Jay also holds a Masters degree in Business Administration and Management, General from James Madison University, earned between 1987 and 1988. In addition to their academic degrees, Jay Grafton has certifications as a Commercial Senior Reactor Operator from TVA and as a Naval Nuclear Engineer from the US Navy.
