Sean Smyth has over 20 years of experience in the business industry. In 1992, they began their career as a Program Director and Music Director for Alternative Rock / R&B Oldies Radio Stations. Sean then moved on to Marketing and Content positions at various music start-ups from 1999 to 2005. In 2005, they joined Tribune Interactive as a Strategic Marketer and was part of the leadership team for a joint venture between Tribune Interactive and Gannett Company. Sean then joined Metromix as the Marketing and Product Development Manager, leading a 10+ person team and creating a national footprint for a local lifestyle entertainment brand. In 2009, Smyth joined Groupon as the Global VP & GM and was an early employee, actively participating in the cataclysmic rise of Groupon in a variety of leadership roles. In 2018, they co-founded PechaKucha with their business partners Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham, and currently serves as the President & CEO of the company.

Sean Smyth earned their MBA from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 2005, focusing on Marketing, Operations, and Entrepreneurship. Sean also holds a BA in Theirtory and Political Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, which they earned in 1995.
