Peter Binfield

Peter Binfield has a long and varied career in the publishing industry. Peter began their career in 1995 as an Assistant Books Editor at the Institute of Physics Publishing. In 1996, they moved to the same company as a Books Commissioning Editor. In 1998, they joined Kluwer Academic Publishers (KAP) as a Publishing Editor of Major Reference Works (MRWs). In 2000, they moved to Springer SBM Publishers as a Business Development Manager, Publishing Director of the global ‘Earth, Environmental and Plant Sciences’ Division, and Publishing Manager of the Physical Sciences Unit. In 2005, they joined SAGE Publications as a Director of Business Development and Editorial Publishing Director (Journals). In 2008, they joined the Public Library of Science as a Publisher of PLoS ONE and Managing Editor of the same journal. Finally, in 2012, they co-founded and became the Publisher of PeerJ.

Peter Binfield achieved their BSc (hons) in Physics with Astrophysics from The University of Manchester between 1987 and 1990. Peter then went on to earn their PhD in Underwater Holography from the University of Aberdeen between 1991 and 1995.
