Jaime Hernandez-Maldonado

Senior Scientist at Pendulum

Jaime Hernandez-Maldonado began their work experience in 2008 as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at UC Santa Cruz. They then went on to work as a Ph.D. Student at the University of California, Santa Cruz from 2011 to 2017, where they were involved in both molecular and environmental research. Jaime's work focused on studying the ecology and molecular mechanism of photosynthetic bacteria capable of metabolizing arsenite as an energy source. They were also responsible for setting up experiments and collecting and analyzing data. In 2017, Jaime joined Pendulum Therapeutics (formerly Whole Biome) as a Scientist. They later advanced to the role of Senior Scientist in 2019. At Pendulum, Jaime contributed to the development of novel medical probiotics to improve the lives of patients suffering from chronic diseases, such as metabolic syndrome, inflammation, and neurodegeneration. Their work involved rebalancing the human microbiome through targeted formulations of natural bacterial strains.

Jaime Hernandez-Maldonado completed a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology (MCDB) from the University of California, Santa Cruz, from 2008 to 2011. Following this, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Microbiology and Environmental Toxicology at the same university, from 2011 to 2016.
