Steve Caruso has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of high-performance computing (HPC) and technical sales support. Steve has held various senior-level positions in renowned companies such as Penguin Computing, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Cray Inc., Silicon Graphics, Sun Microsystems, Qlogic, Linux Networx, and Nielsen engineerings.
Caruso's most recent role is as a Senior Solutions Architect at Penguin Computing, where they started in January 2021. Prior to that, they worked at Hewlett Packard Enterprise as an HPC System Architect from August 2017 to July 2020. Steve was responsible for designing and architecting HPC systems.
From 2014 to 2017, Caruso served as a Senior Solutions Architect, Cluster Solutions, at Cray Inc. In this role, they focused on architecting complex HPC systems for clients.
Before joining Cray Inc., Caruso worked at Silicon Graphics as an HPC architect, US Federal Large Deals Team, from August 2010 to December 2013. Their responsibilities included architecting HPC systems for US government customers and providing technical sales support.
Caruso's work experience also includes a role at Sun Microsystems as a Global HPC System Architect from April 2008 to August 2010. Steve led technical teams in developing proposals for multi-million dollar HPC systems and provided support to local sales teams worldwide.
In the earlier years of their career, Caruso worked at Qlogic as a Principal Systems Engineer from August 2006 to April 2008, providing technical sales support for OEM customers. Steve also served as a Systems/Sales Engineer at Linux Networx from 2005 to 2006, specializing in supporting Federal HPC customers.
Caruso's extensive experience in the HPC field began at Silicon Graphics (later acquired by SGI) in 1996, where they served as a Systems/Sales Engineer until 2005. Steve provided technical sales support for SGI and Cray Federal HPC customers and played a key role in identifying and developing business opportunities.
Prior to their career in the technology industry, Caruso worked as a Research Scientist and Principal Investigator at Nielsen engineerings from 1985 to 1996. Steve was responsible for managing and performing government-funded research projects in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics.
Throughout their career, Caruso has demonstrated expertise in architecting HPC systems, providing technical sales support, leading benchmarking and proposal teams, and collaborating with sales and engineering teams. Steve has also received recognition for their accomplishments, including being named the Federal Area Systems Engineer of the Year in 2000.
Steve Caruso holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. Prior to that, they obtained a Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering from Purdue University. Steve completed their undergraduate studies at the University of Vermont, where they earned a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
