Sharia Benn, CPCU has a diverse work experience that includes various roles in the insurance industry. Sharia started their career as a Personal Lines Underwriting Assistant at Chubb Group of Insurance Companies. During this time, they handled underwriting transactions for high asset and VIP insureds, monitored premium growth and loss ratio, and provided training to agency staff.

Sharia then joined Penn National Insurance and held positions such as Product Manager and Team Leader. As a Product Manager, they managed rate, growth, underwriting, and regulatory issues for assigned states and directed the activities of business analysts. As a Team Leader, they managed daily underwriting activities, ensured compliance with guidelines, and established strong relationships with territory managers, claims staff, underwriters, and agents.

In 2001, Sharia became a part-time Youth Pastor/Pastor of Family Life at Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where they established the overall ministry direction and provided direction, supervision, training, and motivation to staff and volunteers.

Sharia later returned to Penn National Insurance as an Underwriting Manager, where they directed underwriting activities for the Northern Personal Lines Regional Underwriting unit, collaborated with the home office team on pricing and product development strategies, and monitored underwriting quality and results.

In 2012, Sharia took on the role of Director of Underwriting Initiatives at Penn National Insurance, where they were responsible for driving profitable growth, collaborating with Territory Managers and Regional Vice Presidents, and implementing underwriting initiatives involving predictive analytics and staffing models.

Sharia'smost recent position is Director of Corporate Planning & Special Projects/DEI Initiatives at Penn National Insurance, where they are involved in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, as well as corporate planning and special projects.

Sharia is also the Founder, President, and Executive Artistic Director of the Sankofa African American Theatre Company, where they produce thought-provoking productions that honor African American experiences and contributions and collaborates with theater companies, community organizations, and funding agencies.

Through their work experience, Sharia has demonstrated strong leadership skills, the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and a commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion.

Sharia Benn, CPCU obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Mass Communication/Media Studies from Towson University, where they studied from 1986 to 1990. Prior to that, they attended Loyola University Maryland from 1984 to 1986, although no specific degree or field of study was mentioned. Additionally, Sharia holds several certifications, including CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor) from The National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research, CPCU (Certified Property Casualty Underwriter) from the American Institute for CPCU and IIA, and a Program in General Insurance, also from the American Institute for CPCU and IIA. Sharia has also obtained a Resident Agent License- Casualty and Allied Lines, Property and Allied Lines from the Commonwealth of PA.
