Mary Mitchell

Research Professor

Mary Mitchell is a Research Professor at Penn State University since January 2024, with extensive experience in quantitative social science and public health research. Prior to this role, Mary served as a Senior Quantitative Social Scientist at BLN24 and held positions at Friends Research Institute, Inc. as a Research Scientist and Assistant Research Scientist, focusing on substance use disorders and securing National Institutes of Health grant funding. Mary has a strong background in statistical analysis, having worked at Johns Hopkins University as a Statistical Consultant, where advanced modeling techniques were utilized to assess factors affecting the quality of life of HIV+ care recipients. Additional roles included Senior Epidemiologist for the US Army, Assistant Scientist, and Postdoctoral Fellow, with a focus on HIV, drug use, and educational climate. Mary holds a PhD in Public & Community Health from the University of Maryland and a Master’s Degree in Health Communications from the University of Pennsylvania, complemented by a BA in Advertising from Pennsylvania State University.
