Priya Kumar

Priya Kumar is currently an Assistant Professor at Penn State University's College of Information Sciences and Technology since August 2021, following a role as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Maryland College of Information Studies from August 2016 to May 2021, specializing in online privacy and security research. Prior to these positions, Priya worked as a Research Analyst for the Ranking Digital Rights project at New America, where responsibilities included methodology revision and data visualization strategy. Additional experience includes roles at institutions such as the University of Michigan as a Research Assistant and Graduate Student Instructor, and various research positions focusing on media, usability testing, and freedom of expression. Priya holds a Ph.D. in Information Studies from the University of Maryland and a Master's Degree in Information from the University of Michigan, in addition to a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and Government and Politics from the University of Maryland.
