Nathan Mains has a diverse range of work experience. Nathan started working at the Pennsylvania Bankers Association in 1998 as the Director of Communications. In 1999, they became the Senior Vice President at the American Lung Association of Pennsylvania. Prior to that, from 2005 to 2007, they worked as a Senior Associate at The Winter Group, LLC. From 2007 to 2009, they were the Vice President of Regional Operations at Easter Seals Central PA. In 2009, they became the President and Executive Director at Communities In Schools Pennsylvania, where they worked until 2013. Currently, they hold the position of Chief Executive Officer at the Pennsylvania School Boards Association, a role they have been in since September 2013.

Nathan Mains attended Honesdale High School until 1990. Following that, they received a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Government from Lebanon Valley College from 1990 to 1994.
