Joao P. Barreto

Joao P. Barreto has held a variety of roles in the technology and academic sectors. From 2013 to present, they have been the Chief Executive Officer of Perceive3D, S.A., a company that builds on advanced knowledge in computer vision to deliver innovative solutions for assisting the surgeon during minimally invasive procedures. From 2007 to 2013, they were a Senior Researcher at Critical Software, S.A., where they were responsible for an internal study about the market opportunities and commercial viability of an RTOS created by CSW. From 2003 to 2004, they were a PosDoc Research Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, where they worked as a computer vision researcher in the GRASP Lab. From 2002 to 2003, they were a Visiting Researcher at Inria. From 1998 to 2002, they were a Teaching Assistant at the University of Coimbra. Finally, from 1997 to 1998, they were a Teaching Assistant at the Polytechnic of Leiria.

Joao P. Barreto received their PhD in Computer Science - Computer Vision from Universidade de Coimbra in 2003, having previously completed a 'Licenciatura' (5 year program) in Electrical Engineering from the same university in 1997.
