Gilmar Souza

Gilmar Souza has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Gilmar is currently working as the Director of Data Platforms & Analytics at Pet Circle, a role they began in July 2023. Prior to this, they worked at Atlassian where they held various positions. From January 2021 to July 2023, they served as the Senior Engineering Manager of the Data Products Platform, leading five teams with 45+ people. Before that, from November 2018 to January 2021, they were the Senior Engineering Manager in the Search & Smarts department, managing three teams with 20+ engineers.

Before joining Atlassian, Gilmar was the Head of Machine Learning at iFood from February 2017 to October 2018. In this role, they pioneered the Machine Learning practice and established the team, process, and tools to consistently deliver results. Prior to that, from October 2014 to February 2017, they served as the Head of Machine Learning at CI&T, where they led the team responsible for deploying Machine Learning capabilities.

Gilmar's earlier experiences include roles at PST Electronics as a Software Development Manager, Policamp as an Assistant Professor, Kaffa Software Consulting as a Co-Founder, Fissore Consultoria e Assessoria Tecnico-Cientifica S/C Ltda as a Fellow Researcher, Centro de Computacao da Unicamp - CCUEC as an Intern Software Developer, and LNLS as an Undergraduate Researcher.

Throughout their career, Gilmar has demonstrated expertise in leading teams, implementing Machine Learning practices, developing software systems, and working with various technologies and platforms.

Gilmar Souza has a diverse education history spanning multiple fields of study. Gilmar first attended the Fundação Bradesco from 1985 to 1994, although the specific degree and field of study during this time are unknown. From 1994 to 1997, they pursued a Technical High School degree in Data Processing at the Fundação Bradesco. In 1998, Souza entered the Universidade Estadual de Campinas and completed a Bachelor's degree in Physics in 2004.

Later, in 2023, they enrolled at the University of Sydney and obtained a Master's degree in Complex Systems in 2025.

In addition to their formal education, Souza has gained several certifications. These include the edX Verified Certificate for Introduction to Apache Spark, the Big Data XSeries certification, the edX Verified Certificate for Scalable Machine Learning, and the Coursera Verified Certificates for Getting and Cleaning Data and The Data Scientist's Toolbox, all obtained in 2015.

In 2014, they acquired various certifications from Google, including Google App Engine Qualified Developer, Google BigQuery Qualified Developer, Google Cloud SQL Qualified Developer, Google Cloud Storage Qualified Developer, and Google Compute Engine Qualified Developer.

Prior to that, Souza completed courses and obtained certifications such as Computing for Data Analysis in 2014, Introduction to Recommender Systems in 2013, Statistics: Making Sense of Data in 2013, Introduction to Artificial Intelligence in 2011, and Machine Learning in 2011.

Finally, Souza holds certifications from SAP, specifically the SAP Certified Development Consultant SAP NetWeaver 2004 Web Application Development Focus JAVA, obtained in 2007, and from Sun Microsystems with the Sun Certified Enterprise Architect certification achieved in 2001.
