Shona Hickey

Shona Hickey is an experienced Primary School Teacher at the Department of Education since September 2018, with a background in social care that includes ongoing work as a Social Care Worker for Peter McVerry Trust since June 2014, focusing on support for young people in education, employment, and transitioning out of care. Previous experience includes a role as a Residential Childcare Worker at HSE Residential Services, where Shona worked with traumatized youth, developed care plans, and collaborated with multi-disciplinary teams. Shona's earlier career includes work as a Social Care Worker/Special Needs Assistant in a special needs school, where skills in communication and individual education plan development for children with Autism were honed. Shona holds a PME in Primary Education from Hibernia College and a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Social Studies from Limerick Institute of Technology.
