Penny Stewart

Penny Stewart has extensive work experience in the mining industry. Penny founded PETRA in 2015, where they served as the Chief Executive Officer. PETRA developed machine learning and optimization software solutions for the mining industry. Prior to PETRA, Penny was an Associate Professor at The University of Queensland from 2014 to 2016. Penny also worked as a Principal Engineer at Sigma Engineering & Research, where their projects focused on mining and blasting studies. Penny has also held roles as a Senior Innovation Engineer at Newcrest Mining and a Senior Research Fellow at The University of Queensland. Penny began their career as a Senior Rock Mechanics Engineer at Golder Associates and later worked as a Research Consultant and Senior Team Leader at CRC Mining and Sigma Engineering & Research. Penny has a PhD from The University of Queensland, where they started as a PhD Student and also worked as a lecturer. Penny began their career as a Mine Production and Planning Engineer at Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines.

Penny Stewart completed their Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering at The University of Queensland from 1991 to 1995. Subsequently, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mining Engineering at the same university from 2000 to 2003. In addition to their formal education, Penny holds certifications including a Chartered Professional Engineer (Geotechnical) from AusIMM and a Queensland 1st Class Mine Managers' Certificate of Competency from the Queensland Department of Mines and Energy.
