Shawn Hayes

Shawn Hayes, PhD, has a diverse and extensive work experience. Currently, they serve as the Director of Medical Science at Pharming Group N.V. Shawn'sprevious roles include Director of Medical Affairs at Travere Therapeutics, where they focused on Bile Acid Disorders, and Rare Disease Sr Medical Science Liaison at Retrophin. Before that, they worked at Amgen as a Cardiovascular Senior Regional Medical Liaison and also as a Cardiovascular Regional Medical Liaison for heart failure. Dr. Hayes also has experience in the non-profit sector, as they were the Founder and Board member of Teen Public Health and the Co-founder and Board member of Neotropical Grassland Conservancy. Additionally, they held various roles at HealthCorps, including Chief Scientific Officer, VP of Research & Programs, and Medical Director of Behavioral Health Outcomes. Shawn was also a Scientific Advisor for the organization. Dr. Hayes has also been involved with TEDMED as a Delegate and Sponsor. Prior to their current role, they were the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of ACCENT ASSAYS, INC. In 2010, they delivered an invited lecture on mentoring and career paths outside of academia at the University of California, Davis. Overall, Dr. Hayes brings a wealth of experience in the medical and non-profit sectors.

Shawn Hayes, PhD has a strong educational background in the field of biology and integrative physiology. Shawn obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Biology from California State University-Sacramento in the years 1981-1984. Later, they pursued further education and earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Integrative Physiology from the University of California, Davis, graduating between 1996-2001. Additionally, Shawn Hayes has a certification as a Certified Medical Assistant, which they obtained in August 1991.
