Phil Wheddon

1st Team Goalkeeper Coach and Director of Goalkeeping at Philadelphia Union

Phil Wheddon has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of soccer coaching. Phil is currently serving as the 1st Team Goalkeeper Coach and Director of Goalkeeping for the Philadelphia Union since 2020. Prior to this, Phil worked with the U.S. Soccer Federation in various roles, including National Team Goalkeeper Coach and Licensing Instructional Leader since 2002. Phil also owns and directs GK ONE LLC, a training school for goalkeepers that provides professional training programs, clinics, and courses. In addition, Phil has experience as the Director and Organizer of The International Goalkeeper Coaches Conference since 2016, where they manage all aspects of planning, organizing, and promoting the event. Phil has served as the Women's Soccer Head Coach at Syracuse University from 2008 to 2018, where they were responsible for coaching, performance development, and recruitment. Phil has also worked as a coach for United Soccer Leagues LLC (USL), NY/NJ Metrostars, and Southern Connecticut University in the past.

Phil Wheddon attended East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania in 1995, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education & Sports Management. In 1988, they attended Crewe & Alsager College and achieved a Higher National Diploma in Business & Finance / Sports Coaching. In addition to their degrees, they have obtained several certifications, including an A Licence, Instructor certification, and a National GK Licence, all from the U.S. Soccer Federation.
