Tracy Truels has a long and varied work experience. Tracy began their career in 2002 as an Elementary School Teacher for the Chicago Public Schools. In 2004, they joined Indiana University Bloomington as an Associate Instructor for the English Department, and also served as an Editor and Associate Editor for the Indiana Review from 2005-2007. In 2008, they became a SPEA Service Corps Fellow for Economic Development for the Arts with the City of Bloomington, IN. In 2009, they held three concurrent positions as an Intern for Learning Through Art (Education) with the Guggenheim Museum, an Arts-in-Education Intern with Abrons Arts Center, Henry Street Settlement, and a Family Programs Coordinator with the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. In 2014, they joined the Oklahoma City Museum of Art as Director of Learning and Engagement and Curator of Education. Finally, in 2018, they became the Bernsen Director of Learning and Audience Engagement and Assistant Director, Interpretive Engagement at the Philbrook Museum of Art.
Tracy Truels is currently a NextGen Fellow at the Museum Leadership Institute. Previously, they earned an M.A. in Arts Administration from Indiana University Bloomington in 2009, an M.F.A. in Creative Writing (Poetry) from the same university in 2007, a Certification in Alternative K-8 Teaching Cert. Courses from National Louis University in 2005, and a B.A. in English and French from Indiana University Bloomington in 2002.
